Page 178 Court of Ordinary - January Term 1895 Petition of Damarius Ledford shows that she is the widow of Porter Ledford, deceased, and that he died on the 8th day of May, 1893, requests Years Support. ML Ledford, Petitioner’s Attorney Page 179 Demarious Ledford vs Heirs at Law of Porter Ledford, deceased It appearing that there is no representative of said estate and no objections being offered, ordered that Dr. John Anderson, Miles S. Hill, AJ Loftis, Bostly W. Swanson and Robert Ensley be appointed appraisers and set apart a twelve-months support for Demarious Ledford out of the estate of Porter Ledford, deceased. January 7, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 180 The following is a particular description of the marks, natural and artificial brands, station, age and color of a certain heifer this day exhibited to us as an estray by WB Ingram to wit: Red, three years old, overbit in each ear, swallow fork in right and crop in left, bob-tailed, small white spot in front of bag, valued at $700. This January 2, 1895 - AL Ingram, D Logan, Freeholders Personally appeared before me WB Ingram, who upon oath says that the marks and description of the above estray are correct and have not been altered or disfigured to his knowledge since he took it up. WB Ingram - January 7, 1895 Page 181 It is ordered by the court that the above described heifer be sold by the constable of the 1162nd District GM of said county at the usual place of conducting public sales in said district, after advertising the same for ten days at the court house door, in said county, also at the court house door of said district - January 7, 1895. - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 182 February Term 1895 Petition of Wm. Davis, Administrator of estate of James Gurley, Sr., decd, shows to the court that Boyd Gurley is indebted to said estate about $450, that your petitioner considers the collection of said debt doubtful and uncertain and inasmuch as said Boyd Gurley has proposed to pay to petitioner the sum of $200 as a compromise of said debt and your petitioner believing that the acceptance of said sum is for the best interest of the estate, he prays the granting of an order allowing him to accept said $200 in full payment of said debt. Susan Raburn, Petitioner Appointed commissioners Bud Thompson, Micajah Walker, Jasper Cobb, Robert Thompson and John Beavers to lay off year’s support for Susan Raburn and her minor children. - March 18, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 187 Instructions to commissioners on the above - March 18, 1895 Page 188 Union County Court of Ordinary - April Term 1895 Petition of TM Watkins shows that TJ Butt, Sr., of said county departed this life on the 6th day of March 1895, after making his last will and testament, wherein your petitioner is nominated executor, produces said will and requests that it be admitted to record in common form and that Letters Testamentary be issued. April 1, 1895 - Thomas M. Watkins, Petitioner. JA Butt, SY Jarrett and AD McCravey give oath that they witnessed the signing of the above will and that TJ Butt was of sound mind and memory at the time of his signing. April 1, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 189 Will of TJ Butt admitted to record and Thomas M. Watkins issued Letters Testamentary - April 1, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Petition of Martha A. Hunter shows that she is the widow of William Hunter, deceased, who died on September 9, 1894. Requests Years Support for herself and two minor children. Martha A. Ross qualified as a commissioner of Roads and Revenue October 22, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 192 Petition of EW Butt shows the following facts. TJ Butt, the former guardian of the property of Albert E. and Edgar Butt, minor heirs of John G. Butt, deceased, died on the 6th of March, 1895 and there left said minor’s property situated in this county without any legal representation. The above minors having reached the age of fourteen years, have the right to choose their guardian and have chosen petitioner to represent them as their guardian. Request that he be appointed Guardian of the property of the minor heirs for the special purpose of disposing of the perishable property of said minors. EW Butt, Petitioner Granted with bond of $1500 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 193 Petition of MJ Smith shows that Misses Margaret Foster died on or about the 15th day of November 1894, leaving no property, but at the time of her death was a pensioner of the United States and said United States was then due her the sum of $30; wherefore petitioner prays that he be appointed the temporary administrator of the said Margaret Foster. April 30, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 194 In vacation - April 29, 1895 Personally appeared, the undersigned FM Akins, who upon oath says that Kate Curtis is insane and has no guardian and the public safety demands that said Kate Curtis should no longer be left at large. Affiant makes this affidavit that a warrant may issue in terms of the statute in such case made and provided. Penland, Milford G. Hamby and Thomas J. Fields, freeholders, be appointed appraisers of the estate of Athen England, deceased - May 6, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 200 Petition of Sarah A. Rogers, shows that she is the widow of ED Rogers, who died intestate March 26, 1895, and requests Twelve Months Support. May 23, 1895 - Sarah A. Rogers, Petitioner In vacation - May 23, 1895 Ordered that WE Candler, EG Wellborn, TC Hughes, JW Jones and John Haralson be appointed commissioners to lay out of the estate of ED Rogers, deceased, a twelve months support for said widow. - Granted May 23, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 201 Report of Commissioners on the above. Page 202 Union Court of Ordinary - June Term 1895 RL Butt makes oath that Wylie Queen is insane and requests examination. June 3, 1895 - RL Butt Order for the appearance of Wylie Queen before the Ordinary at the courthouse in Blairsville by 3 o’clock, June 3, 1895. Page 203 Report of jury appointed to examine Wylie Queen states that he is insane. S/AD McCravy, MD, FJ Erwin, MD, John England, JW Jones, E Bowling, Jesse Satterfield, SY Jarrett, JB Shope, WE Candler, J Downs, TC Hughes, AB Rogers. Wylie Queen adjudged a pauper lunatic and committed to the Lunatic Asylum at Milledgeville, Ga., and ordered that he be confined in the county jail until he can be removed to the asylum. June 3, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 204 Petition of RL England, administrator of the estate of Athen England, deceased, says that the deceased owned at the time of his death, a tract of land in Union County containing 160 acres more or less, being parts of lots #55 in the 10th and 1st, and #16 in the 16th and 1st, and requests Leave to Sell. RL England, Administrator Ordered citation issue and be published as required by law - June 3, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 205 Petition of Axie Woody, one of the next of kin of John Woody, deceased, shows that the deceased died on June 16, 1894, intestate, leaving property real and personal lying in Union County and in Lumpkin County, Ga., of the probable value of $700. Petitioner requests Permanent Letters of Administration on the estate. - Axie Woody, Petitioner Ordered citation issue and be published as required by law - June 15, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 206 July Term 1895 Application of Exrs. of TJ Butt’s estate requesting approval of an extra charge of $25 to the estate from the charges made to the minor Butts heirs. TM Watkins and TJ Butts, executors Granted above - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 207 Petition of William Davenport and John C. Cobb, administrators of John Davenport, deceased, shows that they as administrators have done the following extra services in the interest of said estate and incurred the following expenses: 4 ½ days of work each for gathering corn and William Davenport furnished waggon and team for 3 ½ days for which they ask to be paid 60 cents a day each for each day’s work and 50 cents each day for waggon and team for hauling hogs, 75 cents to JJ Garlin’s paper for appraisement, 15 cents notes, 5 cents clerks at sale 50 cents. July 1, 1895 - ML Ledford, Petitioners’ Attorney Ordered that William Davenport be paid $4.25 and John C. Cobb $4.15 as services and expenses aforesaid. Granted July 1, 1895 - JWM, Ord. August 5, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Petition of William Davis, administrator of John Woody, deceased, prays the appointment of five discreet freeholders to appraise and value said estate. William Davis, Administrator Page 212 Ordered that John Jarrard, JH Abercrombie, WB Shipp, JA Miller and Thomas Miller, be appointed appraisers of the estate of John Woody, deceased. - Granted August 5, 1895 - JWM, Ordy. Page 213 Be it known that I, Alice Scroggins, the mother of Arthur Scroggins, a bastard boy child, aged about two years old, have this day voluntarily given said child to Thomas M. Henderson until its majority, agreeing that said Henderson may have the sole custody and care of said child upon his treating it kindly and humanely. Requests warrant issued. WL Bowling - November 4, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Order that Mat Strickland be brought before the Ordinary at the courthouse in Blairsville by 2 o’clock, November 4, 1895. This November 4, 1895 - JW Meeks, Ordinary Page 222 Application of Georgia Ann White for Twelve Months Support from estate of Hamilton White, deceased, for herself and her minor children. In the matter of WH Bryson’s application for Homestead, ordered continued until November 6 for final action. - JWM, Ord.
